Love Conquers All

If I will define love based on my own understanding, it means one simple thing: To love means to endure.

Why endure? It is because love is not a bed of roses.

As we all know, there are four kinds of love: (Thanks to Brian Tubb's help for the definitions)

  1. Storge (read as stor-gay) Love- this refers to familial love
  2. Eros L♥ve-  characterized by the desire to draw out all that is good, beautiful and true. (Some may call it erotic love)
  3. Philia Love- refers to Friendship Love
  4. Agape Love- selfless love for others
And if you will ask me now why love for me means to endure it is mainly because if you cannot endure love, no matter what kind of love it is, you will not succeed.

Storge love is something that you should work out for. If you cannot endure the weak points that your family might have, chances are you will have a chaotic relationship with them.

Eros love is another thing that you need to endure. If you cannot accept the person you want to be with for the rest of your life, or if you are looking for Mr. And Miss Perfect Partner, chances are you will grow old by yourself.

Philia love is a work on progress for all of us. All of us have our own sphere of influences. We are surrounded with friends that have a mind on their own. Some have attitude problems and there are some also whom we can easily get along with. But again you have to love them for who they are. They are uniquely created by God so we have to love them by all means. But of course, God gave us the wisdom to avoid getting involved with intolerable individuals who has the ability to inject negative influences in our mind (as well as into our veins) therefore we need to get rid of them.

Agape Love is something that all of us should learn. Can we be selfless as we can? Can we imitate the kind of love that Jesus Christ did for us? This is the most challenging kind of love because it applies to everyone. If we will able to endure pain, persecutions, humiliations, destructions, and other negative vibes that you could think of, then maybe we have truly endured this kind of love.

These are exactly the things that I need to endure right now.

I come short to all of these.

I haven't fully endured love for my family, love for my Significant Other, love for friends, and above all, the selfless love that should be merited for everyone.

Again, I come short to all of these.

It is not because I am just a human, it is because I am so imperfect that it is only by the grace of God that I continue to exist.

We just cannot fathom the kind of love that God has extended for all of us.

I think we all struggle to love more completely and more selflessly, it's an ongoing process.

I stumbled your post - would love if you'd stumble mine!

What a great, thought provoking post. I just did a review of the book Emotional Freedom. I think we only find Emotional Freedom when we can experience the agape love you describe.

One of the benefits of Stumble Tumble Tuesday is beyond the obvious, it's an opportunity to read everyone's best posts of the week - love it!

Stumbled! Here's mine: and there's a handy little stumble button at the bottom of the post.
